<\/a><\/a> Aprovecho el t\u00edtulo de esta preciosa canci\u00f3n de October Project<\/a> para hablar sobre el turismo de cementerios (no s\u00e9 qu\u00e9 suena peor, si eso o necroturismo \ud83d\ude09 ). En Espa\u00f1a, o al menos en la zona donde yo me cri\u00e9, visitar un cementerio no era algo muy popular: se iba por obligaci\u00f3n acompa\u00f1ando a familiares o a amigos que nos dejaban, o en Todos los Santos. Como las circunstancias no eran muy agradables, y tampoco es que fueran sitios muy bonitos, cuanto menos tiempo estuvieras all\u00ed, mejor. Por eso me llamaba tanto la atenci\u00f3n el Cementerio de Trafalgar<\/a> en Gibraltar: fue el primer cementerio que vi que se parec\u00eda a un jard\u00edn muy cuidado, con plantas y \u00e1rboles frondosos que hac\u00edan que te apeteciera visitarlo.<\/p>\n Ya de mayor, leyendo y viajando, descubr\u00ed cementerios que vale la pena visitar no s\u00f3lo por lo bonitos, sino porque en ellos se puede aprender un mont\u00f3n de historia, arte (la simbolog\u00eda funeraria es muy interesante), arquitectura e incluso sociolog\u00eda.<\/p>\n En M\u00e1laga tenemos dos cementerios que creo que merecen una visita. Ambos pueden visitarse libremente, o bien a trav\u00e9s de visitas guiadas (consultar las webs comentadas, as\u00ed como la web de Cultopia<\/a>, una empresa dedicada a la organizaci\u00f3n de rutas culturales que funciona muy bien):<\/p>\n Para el lector interesado dejo aqu\u00ed un par de libros sobre este camposanto:<\/p>\n – Marchant Rivera A. (2005) El cementerio Ingl\u00e9s de M\u00e1laga: tumbas y epitafios<\/em>. Universidad de M\u00e1laga.<\/p>\n – Torres R. (2015) El cementerio de los ingleses<\/em>. Ediciones Xorki.<\/p>\n Ambos cementarios est\u00e1n relacionados con un mismo hecho: el pronunciamiento de Torrijos en 1868 contra el gobierno absolutista de Fernando VII. El General Torrijos fue fusilado junto a sus 48 compa\u00f1eros, y fue enterrado inicialmente en el Cementerio de San Miguel, aunque posteriormente los cuerpos fueron trasladados a la cripta bajo el monumento en su memoria en la Plaza de la Merced<\/a>. Robert Boyd, el irland\u00e9s que acompa\u00f1\u00f3 a Torrijos (el joven pelirrojo en este cuadro de Gisbert), est\u00e1 enterrado -aunque no se sabe exactamente d\u00f3nde- en el Cementerio Ingl\u00e9s.<\/p>\n (Antonio Gisbert, “El fusilamiento de Torrijos y sus compa\u00f1eros en las playas de M\u00e1laga”, Dominio p\u00fablico, via Wikimedia Commoms<\/a>)<\/p>\n Y ya fuera de M\u00e1laga, si visit\u00e1is Glasgow no dej\u00e9is de pasaros por la Necr\u00f3polis (m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n en la\u00a0wikipedia en ingl\u00e9s<\/a>, y en la web de\u00a0The Friends of the Glasgow Necropolis<\/a>). Es un cementerio victoriano bastante extenso, as\u00ed que te puedes dar un buen pase\u00edto, los caminos est\u00e1n bien cuidados, hay mucho c\u00e9sped, y tiene unas vistas estupendas sobre la Catedral de San Mungo<\/a> y parte de la ciudad. Espero que teng\u00e1is la suerte que tuve yo de pillar un d\u00eda de invierno con un solecito precioso \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n <\/a> This beautiful song by October Project<\/a> is my excuse to talk about tourism of cemeteries (I do not know what sounds worse, if that or necroturism \ud83d\ude09 ). In Spain, or at least in the region where I grew up, visiting a cemetery was not the most popular thing to do: you went there because you had to go with relatives or friends that had passed away, or in All Saints’ Day. Since the circumstances were not very pleasant, and they were not very nice places anyway, the less time you were there the better. This is why the Trafalgar Cemetery<\/a> in Gibraltar was so appealing to me: it was the first cemetery I saw that looked like a garden, with leafy trees and plants.<\/p>\n When I grew old and read and traveled, I found out that some cemeteries are worth a visit, not only because they are beautiful places, but because they are living lessons (nice joke here) of history, art (funerary simbology is very interesting), architecture and even sociology.<\/p>\n Here in M\u00e1laga there are two cemeteries that I think are worth a visit. Both can be visited freely, or through guided tours (check the web pages I link in the following, as well as the\u00a0Cultopia<\/a>\u00a0web page, a company dedicated to the organization of cultural tours that works really well):<\/p>\n The interested reader could check these two references (in Spanish):<\/p>\n – Marchant Rivera A. General Torrijos (and his 48 companions) was shot and then buried in the Cementerio de San Miguel, although the bodies were later transferred to the crypt under the monument in his memory in the Plaza de la Merced. It is a wide victorian cemetery, so you can take a nice walk, the paths are well kept, there is plenty of grass, and it has great views over St. Mungo’s Cathedral<\/a> and part of the city.
