width:16px;height:16px; margin: 0; padding: 0; border: none; box-shadow: none;\" src=\"https:\/\/jafma.net\/ana\/theweekendarchaeologist\/wp-content\/plugins\/social-media-feather\/synved-social\/image\/social\/regular\/32x32\/mail.png\" \/><\/a><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a id=\"spanish\"><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"#english\">[In English]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>El 8 de febrero de 1937 tuvo lugar uno de los episodios m\u00e1s tr\u00e1gicos, y sin embargo menos conocido, de la Guerra Civil espa\u00f1ola: <em>La Desband\u00e1<\/em> de M\u00e1laga,\u00a0 el ataque indiscriminado a la poblaci\u00f3n civil mientras hu\u00eda por la carretera M\u00e1laga-Almer\u00eda por parte del ej\u00e9rcito franquista.<\/p>\n<p>De forma muy resumida, la situaci\u00f3n fue la siguiente: al inicio de 1937 las fuerzas franquistas iniciaron una campa\u00f1a con el objetivo de capturar M\u00e1laga. Progresivamente la fueron cercando por tierra, provocando el desplazamiento de miles de civiles de las poblaciones cercanas, que buscaron refugio en la ciudad.\u00a0La desorganizaci\u00f3n militar, la falta de apoyo del gobierno de la Rep\u00fablica y las luchas pol\u00edticas intestinas que hab\u00edan caracterizado el desarrollo de la Guerra Civil en M\u00e1laga finalmente se tradujeron en la desastrosa defensa de la ciudad, que m\u00e1s que defendida fue abandonada por las autoridades republicanas sin organizar su evacuaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>El resultado final fue que durante la tarde del domingo 7 de febrero miles de malague\u00f1os de la capital y refugiados de los pueblos circundantes comenzaron a huir por la \u00fanica v\u00eda de comunicaci\u00f3n que quedaba abierta: la carretera M\u00e1laga-Almer\u00eda que bordea la costa. La mayor\u00eda iba a pie y con las escasas pertenencias que pudieron llevarse. El objetivo era la ciudad de Almer\u00eda, a 200 km. aproximadamente.<\/p>\n<p>Al amanecer del d\u00eda siguiente, 8 de febrero, artiller\u00eda, aviones y barcos franquistas comienzan a disparar y bombardear indiscriminadamente a esa masa humana que huye aterrorizada. El ataque dura varios d\u00edas. Familias enteras son destrozadas por los disparos, muchos ni\u00f1os se quedan solos en el camino al morir sus padres. No se conoce con exactitud el n\u00famero definitivo de v\u00edctimas de esta masacre, pero las cifras que se barajan oscilan entre los 3000 y los 6500 muertos. En el bombardeo de Guernica se habla de un n\u00famero de v\u00edctimas mortales de alrededor de 300 muertos.<\/p>\n<p>Ochenta y un a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s <em>La Desband\u00e1<\/em> apenas se conoce fuera de M\u00e1laga. Ojal\u00e1 esto cambie y se d\u00e9 visibilidad a este desastre soportado por una poblaci\u00f3n civil abandonada a su suerte para ser masacrada.<\/p>\n<p>Para los interesados, algunos libros interesantes sobre la Guerra Civil en M\u00e1laga son:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>El otro reino de la muerte<\/em>, de Gamel Woolsey.<\/li>\n<li><em>Mi casa en M\u00e1laga<\/em>, de Sir Peter Chalmers Mitchell.<\/li>\n<li><em>Muerte en M\u00e1laga<\/em>, de Edward Norton.<\/li>\n<li><em>Un cortijo en M\u00e1laga<\/em>, Marjorie Grice-Hutchinson<\/li>\n<li><em>El crimen de la carretera M\u00e1laga-Almer\u00eda<\/em>, de Norman Bethune, un m\u00e9dico canadiense que asisti\u00f3 a los heridos durante <em>La Desband\u00e1<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a id=\"english\"><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"#spanish\">[En espa\u00f1ol]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the 8th of February 1937 one of the most tragic and yet less known episodes of the Spanish Civil War happened: <em>La Desband\u00e1<\/em> (it could be translated as The Rush of The Flight), that is, the indiscriminate attack on the civilian population that fled through the road from M\u00e1laga to Almer\u00eda by the Franco army.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the situation was as follows: at the beginning of 1937, Franco military troops started a campaign with the aim of capturing M\u00e1laga. Step by step the city was surrounded by land, and therefore the population of the nearby cities displaced seeking for shelter in M\u00e1laga. The military disorganization, the lack of support from the goverment of the Rep\u00fablica and the political internal struggles that had characterized the development of the Civil War in M\u00e1laga finally turned out in the disastrous defense of the city, that rather than defended was abandoned by the republican authorities without any evacuation plan.<\/p>\n<p>The outcome was that in the afternoon and evening of Sunday 7th of February, thousand of malague\u00f1os (M\u00e1laga people) and refugees from the near villages fled through the only way that was still open: the road from M\u00e1laga to Almer\u00eda that borders the coast. Most of them were on foot with the few belongings that they could gather. The goal was to reach Almer\u00eda, about 200 km. away from M\u00e1laga.<\/p>\n<p>At dawn the next day, 8th of February, Franco&#8217;s artillery, planes and ships indiscriminately began to fire and bomb that human mass that run terrified. The attack spread for several days. Whole families were slaughtered by the firing, many children were left alone on the road when their parents died. There is no official number of the mortal casualties caused in this massacre, but the figures range between 3000 and 6500 mortal victims. It is believed that Guernica&#8217;s bombing caused a death toll of about 300 dead.<\/p>\n<p>Eighty one years from then, <em>La Desband\u00e1<\/em> is barely known outside of M\u00e1laga.
